本記事では「フレンズ」の会話シーン(英文/和訳)を紹介していきたいと思います
今回はシーズン1の3話と4話から、いくつか参考になるものを載せていきます
◆建前で使われる言葉についての会話(3話)
フィービーがデートから帰ってきたあとの全員での会話
【フィービー】
Hi, guys.
やあみんな
【ロス】
Hey, oh, how did it go?
デートはどうだった？
【フィービー】
Um, not so good.
He walked me to the subway
and said “We should do this again”.
ダメだわ。駅まで送ってくれて”またね”って
【レイチェル】
What? He said, “We should do this again”.
That’s good, right?
”またね”って言ってたなら脈ありよ
【モニカ】
No, loosely translated,
“We should do this again” means “You will never see me naked.”.
”またね”はおおまかに訳すと、”裸の付き合いはごめんだ”ね
【レイチェル】
Since when?
いつからよ
【ジョーイ】
Since always. It’s like dating language.
You know, like, “It’s not you” means “It’s you”.
昔からの決まり文句だよ。
“あなたは悪くない”ってのは、”あなたのせいよ”ってことさ
【チャンドラー】
”You are such a nice guy” means
“I’ll be dating leather-wearing alcoholics
and complaining about them to you”.
“あなたってとってもいい人ね”は、
“これから私は危ない男とデートしてそのグチをあなたにこぼすことになるわ”って意味だ
【フィービー】
You know,
“I think we should see other people” means “Ha, ha, I already am”.
“お互い別の人を探そう”は、”すでに俺にはいるけどね”って意味よ
【レイチェル】
And everybody knows this?
それ常識？
【ジョーイ】
Oh, yeah. Cushion the blow.
大人の思いやりさ
動詞の「Cushion」は「和らげる」を意味しますので、
「Cushion the blow」は「衝撃を和らげる」という表現になります
【チャンドラー】
Like when you’re a kid and your parents put your dog to sleep
and tell you it went off to live on some farm.
ほら子供の時に犬が亡くなると、
親は”どっかの田舎に行っちまった”というだろ
【ロス】
That’s funny.
No, because our parents actually did,
send our dog off to live on a farm.

◆モニカが彼と別れる決断をしたことを皆に伝える場面(3話)
みんながモニカの彼(アラン)のことを慕っているため、別れる聞いて残念がるシーン

There’s something you should know.
Oh, man, there’s really no easy way to say this.
Uh… I’ve decided to break up with Alan.
話があるのよ。アランの事よ。知らせとくわ。
言いにくいんだけど、彼と別れることに決めたの
【ロス】
Is there somebody else?
他に男ができた？
【モニカ】
No, no, no. It’s just… you know,
things change. People change.
違うの。物事は変わるし、人も心変わりするわ
【レイチェル】
We didn’t change.
私たちは変わらない
【ジョーイ】
So that’s it? It’s over? Just like that?

Yeah, well, who wants fair?
I mean, I just want things back, you know, the way they were.

◆「願いがかなうなら何をする」について語る場面(4話)
【フィービー】
If I were omnipotent for a day,
I would want, world peace, no more hunger,
good things for the rain forest. And bigger boobs.
もし1日だけ全能になれたら、
世界を平和にし、飢えをなくして、熱帯雨林を守るわ。
あと豊胸も
「omnipotent」は「全能」、「hunger」は「飢え」を意味します
また、実現しえないことを仮定して話しているため、仮定法を用いて表現します
【ロス】
Well, see, you took mine, so… Chandler, what about you?
僕もそれが夢だ。チャンドラーは？
【チャンドラー】
If I were omnipotent for a day,
I would make myself omnipotent forever.
もし1日だけ全能になれたら、永遠に全能になるように願うね
【レイチェル】

”If I had a wish, I’d wish for three more wishes.”
いつもこういう男いるのよね。“願いを増やす願いをかける”っていう
◆秘密について打ち明ける場面(4話)

【フィービー】

「I don’t feel so bad」で「悪く思わない」という表現になります
【モニカ】

【フィービー】
