本記事では海外ドラマ「フレンズ」の会話シーン(英文/和訳)を紹介していきたいと思います
今回はシーズン1の13話から、いくつか英会話として参考になるものを載せていきます
やりとりの全てを暗記する必要はありませんが、
部分的に便利で使えそうな表現があれば参考にしてください
◆ジョーイと父親ジョセフとのやりとり
父親のジョセフが母親以外の女性と電話をしてたことから、
不倫していることを知ってしまったってしまったジョーイ
【ジョセフ】

母さん聞いてよ、病院に予約をいれたんだけどさ、、、誰？
(母親だと思って電話を奪ったが、相手が違う女性だった)
父さん! 電話相手は母さんじゃないぞ？
【ジョセフ】
Her name’s Ronni. She’s a pet mortician.
ロニーって女で、ペットの葬儀屋だ。
【ジョーイ】
Sure. So how long have you been?
あっそ。それでいつから？
【ジョセフ】
Remember when you were a little kid,
I used to take you to the Navy yard and show you the big ships?
お前が小さかった頃、よく造船所に行って船を見せた事覚えてるか？
【ジョーイ】
Since then?
それから？
【ジョセフ】
No, it’s only been six years.
I just wanted to put a nice memory in your head
so you’d know I wasn’t always such a terrible guy.
Joe, have you ever been in love?
いや、ほんの6年間だけだよ。
俺がそんなヒドイ奴じゃないって思ってもらいたくて、
ただ良い思い出を思い起こさせたかっただけだ。
ジョーイ、女に惚れた事あるか？
【ジョーイ】
I don’t know.

【ジョセフ】
Then you haven’t. You’re burning your tomatoes.
無いってことさ。トマトが焦げてるぞ

And the worst part of it is, it’s with two different women.

Oh, man. Please tell me one of them is Ma.

【ジョセフ】
Of course one of them is Ma.

Hey, Dad. Ronni’s here.

【ロニー】

【ジョセフ】
Hello, babe.
What are…? What are you doing here?
やあロニー。な、なにしてるんだいここで？
【ロニー】
Oh, uh, you left your good hair at my apartment.
I figured you’d need it tomorrow for your meeting.
私の家に髪の毛(カツラ)置いてったでしょ。
明日の会議に必要かと思って持ってきたの。
【ジョセフ】
Thank you. Uh…

【チャンドラー】
So who’s up for a big game of Kerplunk?
そ、そうだ、誰かカープランクでもやるか？
(気まずい空気をどうにかしようとするジョーイ)
※「up for ～」で「～に前向き / ～に乗り気」として使う事ができます
※カープランクはアメリカのボードゲームです
【ロニー】
Look, I, uh… I shouldn’t have come.
I’d better get going. I don’t wanna miss the last train.
わたし、来るべきではなかったわね。
終電逃したくないし、そろそろ行くわね。
【ジョセフ】
No, I don’t want you taking that thing this.
いやいや、そんなものに乗らなくていいよ
【ロニー】
Where am I gonna stay? Here?
どこに泊まるっていうのよ、ここ？
【ジョーイ】
Whoa.
おいおい、俺の家だぞ!
【ジョセフ】
We’ll go to a hotel.
よし、じゃあホテルに行こう
【ジョーイ】
No, you won’t.
If you go to a hotel, you’ll be doing stuff.
I want you right here, where I can keep an eye on you.
ダメだ。ホテル行ったら、お前らあれするだろ。
俺が監視できるようにここに居ろ。
【ジョセフ】
You’re gonna keep an eye on us?
俺らを監視するってのか?
【ジョーイ】
That’s right, mister. I don’t care how old you are.
As long as you’re under my roof, you’re gonna live by my rules.
And that means no sleeping with your girlfriend.
そうだ。あんたらが何歳だろうと関係ない。
俺の家の屋根の下にいる限りは、俺のルールに従ってもらう。
そしてロニーと一緒に寝るのもダメだ。
【ロニー】
Wow, he’s strict.
わお、彼厳しいのね
【ジョーイ】
Dad, you’ll be in my room.
Ronni, uh, you can stay in Chandler’s room.
父さんは俺の部屋で、ロニーはチャンドラーの部屋だ。
【ロニー】
Thanks. You’re a good kid.
ありがと、立派な子ね。
【チャンドラー】
Come on. I’ll show you to my room.
That sounds so weird when it’s not followed by, “No, thanks, it’s late.”
じゃあ来て、案内するよ。
”もう遅いから大丈夫”ってセリフが続かないなんて変な感じだな
(女の子を誘うと普段は断られるのに、という自虐です)
【ジョーイ】
Okay, now this is just for tonight.
Starting tomorrow, you gotta make a change.
Six years is long enough.
父さん、今夜だけだぞ。明日からは変わってくれよ。
6年もう浮気すれば十分だ。
【チャンドラー】
What kind of change?
何を変われってんだ?
【ジョーイ】
You break it off with Roni.
ロニーとの関係を終わらせるんだよ。
【チャンドラー】
I can’t.
それはできない。
【ジョーイ】
Then you gotta come clean with Ma! This is not right!
それなら母さんとの関係をキレイにしろ。こんなのは正しくない。
【チャンドラー】

◆ジョーイの母親グロリアが家に来るシーン
ジョーイの家にいきなりグロリアがやってきて、ジョセフについて話し合うシーン
【ジョーイ】
Ma. What are you doing here?
母さん、ここで何してるの?
【グロリア】
I came to give you this, and this.
これ (買い物袋) を渡しに来たの。あとこれ! (頭を引っ叩く)
【ジョーイ】
Ow. Big ring.
指輪がデカくて痛いよ
【グロリア】
Why did you have to fill your father’s head
with all that garbage about making things right?
Things were fine the way they were.
物事を正しくしろなんて考えを、何でパパに吹き込んだよ!
前のままで良かったの!
【ジョーイ】
Hold on. You knew?
待ってよ、不倫してる事知ってたの?
【グロリア】
Of course I knew. Your father is no James Bond.
You should have heard some of his cover stories.
”I’m sleeping over at my accountant’s.”
I mean, what is that? Please.
当たり前よ。父さんはジェームスボンドじゃないのよ!
あんたも父さんの作り話を聞いとけばよかったわ。
”会計士の家に泊まる”なんてミエミエだよ。アホか。
【ジョーイ】
So then how could you, I mean, how could you?!
じゃあ何で、何で止めないんだよ?
【グロリア】
Do you remember how your father used to be?
Always yelling, Nothing made him happy.
Not that wood shop, not those stupid little ships in the bottle.
Now he’s happy. I mean, it’s nice. He has a hobby.
昔の父さん覚えてる？いつも怒鳴ってて何も幸せを感じられなかった。
木工やふざけた瓶の中にある船だって、何もかもダメだった。
でも今は幸せなの。趣味ができたんだもの。
【ジョーイ】
Ma, I don’t mean to be disrespectful,
but what the hell are you talking about?
What about you?
けなすわけじゃないけど、何いってんだよ。
母さんはどうすんだよ。
【グロリア】
I’m fine. Look, honey, in an ideal world,
there’d be no her and your father would look like Sting.
And I’ll tell you something else.
Ever since that poodle-stuffer came along,
he’s been so ashamed of himself that he’s been more attentive.
He’s been more loving. It’s like every day’s our anniversary.
私は平気よ。

I’m sorry. I just did what I thought you’d want.
ごめんよ。母さんの事を思ってやったんだ。
【グロリア】
I know you did, cookie. Oh, I know you did.
So tell me. Did you see her?
わかってるわよ。あなたは優しい子だもの。
それより、浮気相手の女のこと見た？
【ジョーイ】
Yeah, you’re ten times prettier than she is.
見たよ。母さんの方が10倍綺麗だ。
【グロリア】
That’s sweet. Could I take her?
嬉しいね。私なら彼女のことコテンパンにできる？
【ジョーイ】
With this ring, no contest.
