本記事では海外ドラマ「フレンズ」の会話シーン(英文/和訳)を紹介していきたいと思います
今回はシーズン1の5話と6話から、いくつか英会話として参考になるものを載せていきます
やりとりの全てを暗記する必要はありませんが、
部分的に便利で使えそうな表現があれば参考にしてください
◆彼女と別れたいと考えるチャンドラー(5話)
彼女のジャニスとの別れ方に困っているチャンドラーと、アドバイスをするメンバーとのやり取りのシーン
【チャンドラー】
So Saturday night, the big night.
Date night! Saturday night. Saturday night!
(さあ土曜の夜だ！デートの夜だぞ 土曜の夜! )
【ジョーイ】
No plans, huh?
(予定ないだろ？)
【チャンドラー】
Not a one.
(ひとつもない)
【ロス】
Not even, say, breaking up with Janice?
(ジャニスと別れるとは言わないのか？)
【チャンドラー】
Oh, right, right. Shut up.
(うるさい)
【モニカ】
Chandler, nobody likes breaking up with someone.
You just gotta do it.
(チャンドラー、気が重いのはわかる でも別れないと)
【チャンドラー】
I know. But it’s just so hard.
You’re sitting there with her. She has no idea what’s happening.
You finally get up the courage to do it
and there’s that horrible awkward moment,
when you’ve handed her the note.
(わかってる、でも難しいんだ。彼女察しが悪いんだ。
勇気を出してメモを渡したときも、ひどい気まずい瞬間だった)
【ジョーイ】
Why do you have to break up with her? Be a man. Just stop calling.
(別れる必要なんてないさ、もう電話するな)
【フィービー】
If you want, I’ll do it with you.
(別れるときに私も立ち会うわ)
【チャンドラー】
Thanks, but I think she’d feel like we were ganging up on her.
(ありがとう、でも集団で攻撃するみたいになるよ)
【フィービー】
No, I mean you break up with Janice and I’ll break up with Tony.
(あなたがジャニスト別れるときに私もトニーと別れるって意味よ)
【モニカ】
You’re breaking up with Tony?
(トニーとわかれるの？)
【フィービー】
I know. He’s sweet, but it’s just not fun anymore.
I don’t know if it’s me or his hunger strike. I don’t know.
(彼は優しいけど楽しくないの。私のせいなのか、

◆レイチェルとロスがコインランドリーに行く(5話)
レイチェルと一緒にコインランドリーにいくロスと、チャンドラーのやりとりのシーン
【ロス】
Monica’s not coming. It’s just gonna be me and Rachel.
(モニカは来ないよ。レイチェルと二人で[洗濯]に行ってくる)
【チャンドラー】
Hold on there, camper.
Are you sure you’ve thought this thing through?
(待て、ちゃんと作戦は練ったのか？)
※洗濯かごを持っている様子がキャンプに行く人のようなので、camperと言っています
【ロス】
It’s laundry. The thinking through is pretty minimal.
(洗濯だぞ。考えることなんて全然ないよ)
【チャンドラー】
It’s just you and Rachel? Just the two of you?
This is a date. You’re going on a date.
(レイチェルと二人きりだろ？ それはデートだ。お前はデートに行くんだ)
【ロス】
What are you saying?
I should shave again? Pick up some wine? What?
(何をいってる？ じゃもう一回髭をそって、ワインでも持ってけばいいのか？)
【チャンドラー】
Well, you may wanna rethink the dirty underwear.
This is basically the first time she’s gonna see your underwear.
Do you want it to be dirty?
(そうだな。汚いパンツは考え直した方がいい。彼女が初めてお前の下着を見るんだぞ
汚くてもいいのか？)
【ロス】
No.
(いやだ)
【チャンドラー】
Oh, and uh, the fabric softener?
(それと、その柔軟剤か？)
【ロス】
Ok, ok. Now, what is wrong with my Snuggles?
What? It says I’m a sensitive, warm kind of guy.
You know, like a little fuzzy bear.
All right, I can pick something else up on the way.
(僕の”スナグル”の何が悪いんだ？ 何が？

◆チャンドラーが綺麗な女性を見かけたとき(6話)
皆でジョーイの芝居を見に行った時に、チャンドラーが綺麗な女性を見かけたシーン
【チャンドラー】
Ross, 10:00.
(ロス 10時だ)
【ロス】
Is it? It feels like 2:00.
(そうなの? 2時の感覚だよ)
【チャンドラー】
No, 10:00!
(違う、10時の方向だ)
【ロス】
What?
(何が？)
【チャンドラー】
There’s a beautiful woman at 8:00, 9:00, 10:00!
(8時、9時、10時の方向に美女がいるぞ)
【ロス】
Hello..
(やあ。。※美女を見つけたときの反応)
【チャンドラー】
She’s amazing!
She makes the women I dream about look like short, fat, bald men.
(最高だ。これまで夢見てきた女が、チビで太ったハゲおやじに見えるよ)
【レイチェル】
Go over to her. She’s not with anyone.
(早く声かけたら？ 彼女一人よ)
【チャンドラー】
And what would my opening line be?
(最初のセリフは何がいい？)
※「opening line」は「本の最初の行」という意味合いです
【レイチェル】
Come on, she’s a person. You can do it.
(ビビることないわよ？ 彼女は人間なのよ。できるって)
【チャンドラー】
Oh please, Could she be more out of my league?
Ross, back me up here.
(彼女がこれ以上に高嶺の花になりえるのか？ ロス何とか言ってくれよ)
※ 「out of my league」は「手が届かない」のような意味合いです
【ロス】
He could never get a woman like that in a million years.
(チャンドラーは絶対に彼女みたいな女性はゲットできないね)
【フィービー】
But you know,
you always see these really beautiful women with these really nothing guys.
You could be one of those guys.
(でも美人となんでもない男が一緒にいるところをよく見かけるでしょ。
あなたもそのうちの一人になれるわ)
◆仕事をクビになったジョーイをみんなで励ますシーン(6話)
クビになったジョーイが帰宅してきてからのシーン
【モニカ】
Aren’t you the guy who plays the butt in the new Al Pacino movie?
(アルパチーノの新作にお尻役で出てる人じゃない？)
※アルパチーノのお尻の代役で仕事を受けていたため
【ジョーイ】
Nope.
(でてないよ)
【ロス】
No? What happened, big guy?
(何があったんだよ大物？)
【ジョーイ】
I got fired! They said I acted too much with it.
I told everybody about this. Everybody will be expecting to see me.
(クビになったよ。演技が過剰だってさ。皆に言っちゃたから、皆期待しちゃうよ)
【レイチェル】
You know what? No one will be able to tell.
(誰もわからないわよ) ※お尻の代役のため
【ジョーイ】
My mom will.
I’ve done nothing but crappy plays for six years,
and I finally get my shot, and I blow it!
(お母さんはわかるよ。3流芝居を6年続けてやっと掴んだチャンスなのにしくじった)
※「shot」は「chance」と同じように「機械」のような意味合いですが、より口語的です
【モニカ】
Maybe this wasn’t your shot.
(きっとこれはあなたのチャンスではなかったのよ)
【ロス】
I think when it’s your shot, you know it’s your shot.
Did it feel like your shot?
(お前がチャンスだと思った時がチャンスだ。チャンスだと感じた？)
【フィービー】
I don’t think this was your shot. I don’t even think you just get one shot.
I really believe big things are gonna happen for you.
You’ve gotta keep thinking about the day that some kid will run up to his friends and go…
…”I got the part! I’m gonna be Joey Tribbiani’s ass!”
(これはあなたのチャンスじゃなかったわ。絶対に大きなチャンスが来る。
いつかどこかの子供が友達に、「”ジョーイ”のお尻の代役をゲットした」と
言う日がやってくることを考え続けなさい)
【ジョーイ】
You think? That’s so nice.
